Aikra Beta Privacy Policy
1. About this policy
This policy describes what Aikra collects during the beta, the things we deliberately refuse to collect, and the choices you always hold. It is written to a single discipline: data that does not exist cannot be lost, leaked, subpoenaed, or sold. Your use of Aikra is also governed by our Terms of Use, and this policy is part of the same agreement.
2. What Aikra collects
We keep only the minimum needed to run a two-person safety loop: your phone number, stored only as an irreversible hash for sign-in and separately encrypted so we can relay SMS notifications, never in plain text; your display name; a coarse, neighborhood-level area you ask Aikra to watch, with no location history and no map of any person; an age attestation, meaning the fact that you confirmed you are 18 or older and when; your most recent check-in state, not a history of your states; and minimal, de-identified operational analytics to keep the service healthy. We work with a small number of service providers to operate Aikra, for example a telecommunications provider to deliver SMS messages and cloud infrastructure to host our systems. These providers act only on our instructions, are bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations, and are prohibited from using your information for their own purposes, including marketing or advertising. We do not permit any service provider to sell or share your information.
3. Consumer health data
Some of what we collect, including your check-in state and the area you ask us to watch, may qualify as “consumer health data” under Washington’s My Health My Data Act. For this data, in addition to everything else in this policy: we collect it only with your affirmative consent, given when you set up a check-in or circle; we do not sell it, under any circumstance, without your separate, signed authorization; and you may withdraw your consent or delete this data at any time in the app, effective immediately. Withdrawing consent stops future collection; it does not undo check-ins already completed.
4. What we refuse to collect or do
Your precise location never leaves your device; any computation that needs it happens on the device. We keep no location history, ever. We do not sell your data and do not monetize it, ever. We do not share your information with third parties for their marketing or advertising. We do not use geofencing around any healthcare facility for any purpose, including to identify or target users seeking health care services. When we ask your date of birth to check eligibility, we use it for that decision and do not keep it: no date of birth is stored in any record, log, or event.
5. SMS and text messaging
Aikra uses SMS to send account verification codes, one-time circle invitations, and safety-circle notifications (such as when a check-in is acknowledged or an invitation is accepted). You consent to account and safety messages when you create an account; a circle invitation is sent only when an Aikra user enters your mobile number to invite you, and is a single message.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not share your mobile number, your SMS opt-in, or your consent with any third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. All of the above categories exclude text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Message frequency varies with your activity. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help, or contact hello@aikra.com.
6. Circles and invitations
Your circle is only the people you choose. Invitations are sent by you, from your own phone: Aikra prepares the message and you send it yourself from your own number. Until your invitee accepts and creates their own account, Aikra holds only an invitation link and the name label you entered, never your invitee’s phone number; their number enters our systems only when they sign up themselves. Declined invitations are deleted immediately; unaccepted invitations expire and are deleted after fourteen days; you may cancel an invitation at any time with the same effect. Aikra never discloses your circle to anyone outside it.
7. Location
Precise location stays on your device. Aikra’s service receives only the coarse area you ask it to watch, keeps no location history, and renders no maps of people. Where a feature uses your device’s location capabilities, the computation that involves your precise position happens on the device.
8. Law enforcement and legal process
We disclose account information in response to legal process (a subpoena, court order, search warrant, or other legally binding demand) only to the extent that process requires. Where we believe an emergency involves a risk of death or serious physical harm, we may share limited information with law enforcement without legal process, consistent with applicable law. We have no location history, precise location, or circle map to disclose, because we do not collect it. Where the law permits, we notify the affected user before complying with a request; where we are prohibited from doing so, we comply with that prohibition. We do not give any government agency direct or ongoing access to our systems.
9. Age eligibility
Aikra is for people 18 and older, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to hold an account. If we obtain actual knowledge that an account holder is under 18, including through an age attestation later found to be false, we suspend the account immediately and delete it through our standard deletion process, subject to any legal-hold obligation, and send one plain notice to the account with a way to correct the record. The circle experiences the removal as ordinary quiet, with no reason surfaced.
10. Analytics and retention
Our operational analytics carry no name and no precise location and are keyed only by an irreversible hash, so this store alone cannot be joined back to a person. Raw operational events are retained for at most thirty days and are then collapsed into aggregates that carry no member identifier; any group smaller than ten people is suppressed entirely rather than surfaced. We otherwise retain only what Section 2 describes, and only while your account is active.
11. Keeping and deleting your information
You can delete your account at any time in the app. Deletion removes your identity information and current state promptly, retains only aggregate information that does not identify you, and notifies no one: your circle is not told that you left or why, and nothing in the product announces your departure. Where you ask us to delete consumer health data specifically, we complete that deletion, including from backups, within the timeframe the My Health My Data Act requires, and we notify any service provider who received that data to do the same.
12. Your controls
You can go silent (Ghost Mode), pause what you share, leave any circle, or delete your account. Each takes effect immediately, and none of them notifies your circle. Your safety includes safety from this app.
13. Your state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy law, including the right to confirm whether we process your personal information and access it, correct inaccurate personal information, delete your personal information, and receive a copy of it in a portable format. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under applicable state law, and we do not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise a right, contact hello@aikra.com; we will verify your request using information reasonably available to us and respond within the time required by law. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our denial; if we deny your appeal, you may contact your state attorney general.
14. Security
We use encryption in transit, hash or encrypt sensitive fields at rest, and limit access to the few systems that need it. No system is perfectly secure, but the strongest protection we offer is the data we never collect.
15. Changes to this policy
Aikra is in beta and evolving. If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
